A GIF is a stack of still frames with a small palette and no sound. Render the MP4 at the quality the detail needs, with a framing you can crop from. A soft, flickering MP4 becomes a larger flicker in a GIF.

Five checks before you convert
A GIF makes each flaw of the MP4 more visible and removes the sound, so check the clip first.
- Watch the MP4 on mute at phone size. If the motion reads without sound, it will convert.
- Make sure the flicker is gone. Light that dances at a short loop looks like noise.
- Trim away the first and last frames, which often hold a half-finished movement.
